Mats Sundgren

Mats Sundgren, PhD, is Chairman of the Board at IMIT – the Institute for Management of Innovation and Technology – and a Senior Advisor in health data, AI, and R&D strategy. He brings more than 37 years of experience across pharmaceutical research, clinical development, data science, and digital transformation, including senior leadership roles at AstraZeneca where he led global initiatives on electronic health records and real-world data for R&D. Mats is a co-founder and Senior Industry Scientific Director of i~HD (European Institute for Innovation through Health Data) and serves as Scientific Advisor to data science and AI companies including IgniteData and IOMED. He has authored more than 80 publications across life sciences, innovation management, and data-driven research, with a focus on leadership, governance, and organizational transformation in AI-enabled research environments.
