Ola Engkvist

Ola Engkvist, PhD, is Executive Director and Head of Molecular AI within Discovery Sciences at AstraZeneca R&D, where he leads the development and application of machine learning and artificial intelligence to enhance molecular design, property prediction, and drug discovery. With a PhD in computational chemistry and postdoctoral research experience, Ola has published well over 150 peer-reviewed scientific articles on AI-driven molecular design, deep learning in drug discovery, and cheminformatics, making him one of the most cited industrial researchers in his field. He is an ELLIS fellow and a 2025 Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher. He holds an adjunct professorship in machine learning and AI for drug design at Chalmers University of Technology, serves as a Trustee of the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre, and is recognized internationally for his work at the intersection of AI, chemistry, and pharmaceutical innovation.
