Petra Wilson

Petra Wilson, PhD, is a Senior Advisor on EU Policy at HIMSS, focusing on digital health policy, data governance, and the responsible use and re-use of health data within the evolving European regulatory landscape, including GDPR and related legislation. A public health lawyer by training, she brings more than 25 years of experience in European digital health policy, governance, and innovation.

Alongside her work at HIMSS, Petra advises global life sciences organizations and healthcare stakeholders through FTI Consulting in Brussels, supporting strategic engagement on EU health data, AI, and digital transformation initiatives. Petra serves as a Member of the WHO Digital Health Technical Advisory Group and holds board or advisory roles with several international organizations, including the European Association for the Study of Diabetes, the European Patients’ Forum, and EURORDIS – Rare Diseases Europe.

Earlier in her career, Petra served as CEO of the International Diabetes Federation, Senior Director for Public Sector Healthcare Solutions at Cisco, and Policy Officer in the European Commission’s Digital Health Unit. She has also lectured in healthcare law at the University of Nottingham.
